Bad News on Doublers at Albertsons

I was in the Twin Falls Albertsons last night for about an hour making all of my selections to use up the rest of my doublers for this week and when I got to the register, the cashier tells me that they can no longer double any coupon that say "do not double."

Great! So much for spending so much time shopping! I had to put a lot of it back because some of my coupons said "do not double." Normally I probably would have bought it anyway but I was a little ticked off. The fact is that I don't understand WHY. It is not the manufacturer that doubles the coupon, it's the store that does. Unless I am somehow mistaken. When they scan the double coupon, it acts as a store coupon. The cashier then writes in the amount to be doubled. At the end of the night when they are settling their drawers and their coupons, there is no way of telling WHICH coupons were doubled. There is simply an amount on the doubler. So my question is WHY can't it be doubled?? I could totally understand if it were the manufacturer doing the doubling but it's the store.

As you can see, I am a little frustrated. I just wanted to give you all the heads up so that you don't waste the time I did just to be turned down. So next time you are in Albertsons, check your coupons carefully and then talk to the store manager, not just the cashier, and see what he has to say about this. I am going to when I go in because it just doesn't make any sense!!!

It was late and I was tired so I could have done better at this. In hind sight, I should have added some small "filler items" so that I could have used more register rewards to pay, but like I said, it was late and I was tired! Next time I'll do better! :)

**It has taken me a little bit to get the hang of Walgreens. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Why wasn't I able to use more rr to pay for my purchase? Well, the register sees the rr as coupons. So, if you buy 6 items and you have 5 coupons for those items, then the register is only going to let you pay with one rr. That's why you add "filler items" to your purchase. A filler item can be anything cheap that you don't have a coupon for that will bring up your total number of items being purchased. For instance, if I had added in a couple candy bars or something to the above transaction, I would have been able to use a couple more rr and brought my total out of pocket price down. That's why its best to go without children, and with a brain that isn't as tired as mine was last night! **

I didn't need anymore cereal but I thought I'd give the ecoupon thing a try while it was all on sale. You can load ecoupons on your Smiths card from either cellfire.com, shortcuts.com , p&g.com or unilever. Just enter your phone number or Fresh Values card number and then select the coupons that you would like on your card. By the time you get to the store your coupon should be loaded on your card. When you check out, the ecoupon will be deducted from your total and show as cfire or scuts next to the item name.

The benefit? As you can see above, you can use the ecoupon with a manufacturer coupon for twice the savings!!

The downside? You can only load one coupon per item. But since there are 2 different sites you can load one coupon per site (like I did with the Cocoa Puffs). Then when you come home, load it on there again!

Don't have a Smiths? There are other stores that participate too (Fred Meyer). Once you get the coupons loaded onto your card then you can print a shopping list so you know what coupons you have loaded. There is a 50 coupon limit per site, but there are 3 sites so you can load up to 150 coupons on your card! There is an expiration date for these coupons too, but it will let you know when you print your list or visit the site when this is.

Kelloggs Cereal Sale At Swensen's Markets

Swensen's Market has their HUGE boxes of Kelloggs Mini Wheats, Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes on sale 9/14-9/19 for $2.97. This is a great price by itself but pair it with a $1.50/2 boxes of Mini Wheats coupons and it gets even better! (The smaller boxes of Kelloggs are on sale for $2.)

Wanna Know Why I Love Coupons???

I'm still smiling and I bought this all last night. I got everything you see pictured above at Albertsons for....wait for it....wait for it.....$3.19!!!! That's right, about the same amount of money I found while cleaning my couches yesterday. Total savings was $65.18! If my math is correct, that is a savings of 95%!!! That's 8 boxes of Kashi cereal, 16 Yoplait yogurts, 6 cans of Pilsbury biscuits, 3 packs of gum, 1 package of M&M's and 1 Welch's grape juice.

OK, here's how I did it:

Albertsons has a Kashi deal where you buy any 4 Kashi products and get $4 off instantly at the register. I did that twice. I also used 2 $1.5o of Kashi cereal coupons, and 5 $1 off Kashi coupons and doubled 4 of those (this was 2 separate transactions). Total price for Kashi was about $.25-$.50 a box.

The Yoplait was on sale for $.50 each. I used 2 $.75 off 4 yogurt coupons and 1 $1 off 8 Yoplait coupon and doubled each of those. Total price for yogurt was $.12-$.25 each.

I had a rain check for the biscuits. The rain check price was $1.25 a can. I doubled 3 save $1 on 2 cans coupons making them $.25 each.

The Welch's was my most expensive purchase! It was on sale for $3 and I doubled a $1 coupon making it $1.

The gum and candy were my filler items. The total kept coming to just under $2 and I wanted to use my $2 Albertsons survey coupons (they print occasionally on the bottom of your receipt) so I added my filler items to bring my total to just over $2, used my coupon and paid merely cents for the whole transaction! (I did 4 separate transactions)

It was like I walked into Albertsons, bought 3 packs of gum and got all the rest of this stuff for FREE!!!

Doubles! Doubles!

This Sunday there were 3 Albertsons double coupons in Boise area newspapers (the Times News does not carry the Albertsons ad on Sundays). These are good thru Tuesday.

The new Albertsons ad that runs 9/16-9/22 also has 3 double coupons in it!!

Where can you find some double coupons? Ask at the customer service desk, they will give you one copy each day. Also check in those free papers that get delivered on Monday and Tuesdays (you can pick up a free copy of this if you need another one at the Times News office as well) or buy a Wed paper.
