Update on Smith's Coupon Policy

I learned tonight that Smiths has changed their coupon policy yet again. I don't want to have to get on my soap box again but let it just be said that if people continue to abuse the store's acceptance of competitor coupons, then pretty soon they aren't going to even accept them at all.

The Idaho Smiths stores are the only stores that accept competitor coupons and they have slowly changed their policy because people are taking advantage. I'm sure it's none of my readers tho!! ;)

Their new policy: They will only accept competitor coupons from other GROCERY stores.
I was told that they will no longer accept Walgreens, Shopko, Kmart, and other store's catalina coupons. They will continue to accept Albertsons and Fred Meyer coupons. Target was not mentioned and I didn't think about it until I left so I am not certain if they are accepting Target coupons still or not. I will let you know when I find out.
Please, use your coupon etiquette when shopping. Be kind, don't take all of the coupon books, ads, or items. Leave some for others and don't do what you know is wrong. There are a few who do this and ruin it for the rest of us.

My Mega Event Trips

OK, so I've really been talking up this Mega Event sale at Smiths the last two weeks and for good reason...it was a good one!! There were so many coupons to pair with the great sale prices! I wish that I would have had my card reader so I could have dazzled you all with pictures of my purchases ;) however, my kids ran away with it again and so I am picture-less. I did a tally and thought I would at least share the numbers with you.

Over the last two weeks I made six trips to Smiths. I left each time with a cart full of groceries!! Not just a few items, but TONS of stuff. I was able to re-stock on lots of items that I needed and I got enough to last my family months. I spent more than I usually do in two weeks time but like I said, I got so much for my money!

Total Spent: $241.15

Total Saved: $807.12 or 77%

My Smiths Deals 1/19/10

Good news and bad news.......

Good news! Smiths in Twin Falls accepts Albertsons doubler (twice the value) coupons!!!!!

Bad news! They limit it to 3 doublers per person per day. Here's where I get on my soap box. I learned last week that Smiths was accepting Albertsons doublers because the store manager told my sister that someone came in with 100 $1 shampoo coupons and 100 doublers. WOW! Then, this week 2 people came in with 80 doublers. Now here's the deal, people.....DON'T ABUSE THE SYSTEM!!! Come on now. Who the heck would think that using 80-100 double coupons in one transaction wouldn't send a red flag to the store. Smiths is doing a GREAT thing in my book by accepting competitor coupons! They are the only store I know of around here that does it. And I was really happy to learn they accepted doublers!! But then I heard about these transactions and I said "they are gunna ruin it for everyone." I hate it when I'm right. The fact that they still accept doublers at all is good, don't get me wrong. I am very grateful for that!! I just get irritated when people abuse it. Smiths has been AWESOME to work with when it comes to coupons and I hope that they don't change their policy any more than they have. Lets just be realistic when we shop, shall we? The competitor coupons come right off the bottom line for the store, they don't get reimbursed for them at all. The fact that they accept them is a service to us, the customer. So lets be courteous, and not greedy, OK?

Alright, I'm stepping off the soap box now....

More good news.... I got everything in the picture for $14.58, and I saved $50.98 (80%)

  • 12 boxes of Lean Pockets (my kids love them) used Albies coupon for $1.39 and 3 $1/4 manufacturer coupons. ($3.59 for 4 boxes)
  • 11 bags of Steam Fresh veggies (these are so handy!!) on sale for $1 each, used 11 $1.50 off Steam Fresh meals coupons (profit $.50 per bag!)
  • 3 8-packs of DanActive drinkable yogurt. Clearance priced for $1.50 each, used 3 $1.00 manf coupons ($.50/8pack)
  • 2 gallons of milk $2 each
  • 1/2 gallon chocolate milk $1.99 used FREE coupon

Some of My Favorite Deals This Week

OK, yesterday was a much better couponing day for me!!! I did much better than the disappointing day before. I made trips to Walgreens, Smiths and Albertsons and thought I'd share some of my favorite deals with you!

Walgreens:
I thought about the GM cereal 2/$4 deal and decided it wasn't that great of a deal because you had to buy a gallon of milk with the 2 boxes of cereal to get the $2 register reward. Well, a friend told me you didn't have to so I decided to try it...and NO, you don't have to buy the milk to get the rr. So, buy 2 boxes of "select" GM cereals for $2 each and get $2 back in rr.

Use the $1 off Honey Nut Cheerios coupon from HERE if that flavor is available.

Also, at the new Walgreens store in Twin Falls, with the peelie coupons stuck to the Pepsi 12 packs and the in store coupon, Pepsi 12 packs are 4 for $8.92 ($2.23 each).

Albertsons:
Albie's has their Pillsbury refrigerated cookie dough on sale for $1.29 (I didn't see this in the ad so I don't know if this is an unadvertised deal or not). Use the $1 off coupon from HERE and get cookie dough for only $.29!! (I hope this coupon is still available!! it was 2 days ago.)

There is an in-store coupon for Orowheat bread for $1.49 a loaf. Use your $.55 off Orowheat coupon that expires TODAY and get it for only $.94 a loaf.

Kelloggs cereal is on an in-store coupon for $1.47 a box. I managed to find a couple of $1 coupons in my binder that expire today and a peelie stuck to one of the boxes so be on the look-out for those. You can also use the $5 off 4 boxes of Kelloggs cereal coupon from the Target site. The first 3 boxes are at the $1.47 price and the 4th will not be (I think they're only $1.99 on sale anyway) so that would make 4 boxes only $1.40!!

Boneless, skinless chicken breast is $1.88/lb

Jimmy Dean bacon $1.99 for 12 oz package (with in-store coupon)

$2.99 for 2lb Albertsons cheese, shredded or chunk. If you still have any $1/2lb cheese coupons this would make an even sweeter deal!

Spend $25 on participating P&G items, get $10 catalina towards your next purchase. Use your P&G coupons from Sunday's paper. The $25 has to be BEFORE coupons and tax.

Smith's:
Townhouse or Keebler crackers 3 for $5.

milk $1.89 a gallon

Dole salad $2/2

vitamins 50% off

Colgate toothbrushes or toothpaste $1 ea

Avocados 2/$1

Kroger gallon OJ $2.50

Freschetta Pizzas $3.99

Spend $25 on participating P&G items, save $5 instantly.

Tony's pizzas $1.78

Kroger cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese or dips $.88

Smiths -vs- Target

I went to Smiths yesterday and did one transaction. I handed the cashier about 40 coupons, some Target store coupons and some manufacturer coupons. She took them all without any hesitation. In fact, she was very friendly and even asked me some questions about where to find coupons for herself. I left there thinking, "Man, I love shopping at Smiths." It was smooth and pleasant.

I went to Target today and bought a few items. I handed the cashier about 6 coupons. I'm surprised they don't have a microscope installed at the registers there now to make sure they don't miss any information on those coupons!! She looked over them very, very carefully so as to possibly catch me doing something wrong. I left there thinking, "Man, I hate shopping at Target!" While I like their prices, using coupons there has become a huge pain in the....butt.

I think I will just use my Target coupons at Smiths from now on and match their ad items at Walmart and bypass Target as much as possible. I wonder if they are trying to make shopping at their store with their own coupons a miserable experience or if it is just a coincidence.
